Who was the teacher who made the most positive impact on you?
I think having good teachers is the biggest factor affecting the quality of education. I’ve had many great teachers throughout my school life who had influenced me positively. I am grateful for what they had taught me. But I think the teacher who made the most positive impact is my father.
My father is not really a teacher but he has taught me a lot. He made me love math. He would sit and play with me and teach me about numbers, addition and stuff. He also inspired a love of books. For a while, he had bought me a new book every Friday. I would get super excited and start reading the new book right away. Getting my hands on a new book still feels good.
I love my mom a lot but I feel like I connect with my father in more ways. I think this is also because he was more involved in my education. Over our long conversations, he taught me a lot of things that helped me understand myself and life to some extent. I appreciate those more as I get older. Here is one of my favorite photos with him:
I just answered this Featured Question, you can answer it too!

Sounds like your dad is a real treasure. I hope he knows how much you appreciate him. You are very lucky to even have had one that stuck around, but what a blessing to have one that cared enough to share a bit of himself. It is sad how many just don’t take the time to invest some of themselves into their kids. There is no better investment opportunity out there. Good for you for sharing this…and kudos to that dad.
That’s sweet. =)

I love strong father/daughter relationships. Thanks for sharing! =)
Great picture!!!
Hi,
I saw you stopped by my site after you saw the comment I left about the new abilitiy to delete and edit comments. I know that Xanga is pushing their new themes and as such, the themed sites would get new features first. As an aspiring programmer, I do not wish to bash your work; merely, I was arguing for a more orthogonal approach. You’ve spent the time developing the feature so make it useful to all.
Though I’ve written on Xanga longer, I use Live Journal heavily and I must say that they got both threaded comments and editing and deleting of comments right. I think you should be able to delete any comment that you leave (perhaps you might allow the site owner to freeze comments on their entires so that comments can’t be deleted). I wished that the replies on Xanga worked more like threaded comments on Live Journal. As it doesn’t appear to matter if Xanga comment has been replied to or not, I don’t see why editing a comment that has been replied to would be a big deal, but that’s your call as a developer.
Lastly, themed sites do not render correcty in Opera. When you zoom in on certain sites (see http://xanga.com/mahz for example) when you type in the edit box, the page will scroll down so that you cannot see what you are typing. Sites like xanga.com/trunthepaige/ or http://xanga.com/http://www.xanga.com/xXxButterfly_ladyxXx will only give you one screen of information and will not scroll down. (The scrollbar is a long as the page, so the browser things that there is nothing down there.) I would appreciate you looking into both of these issues for me and offer my sincerest apology for my angry outburst.
Fellow Xangan,
PT
P.S. I cross-post on Live Journal, so that retraction post that you read is not applicable to Xanga. Sorry.
@ProfessorTom - We are thinking about improving comments even more, maybe doing threaded comments. But right now we are doing our best with the constraints we have. Also keep in mind that we have so many products, comments is only one of them.
I will look into the issues you mentioned. We really care about our users and it makes me sad to see comments like you left on the Xanga Team page. But feedback is always appreciated. So, thank you.
@ayca - This is why Xanga rules: open communication.
Forgive me for my nosiness, but your name is just too intriguing; where are you from?
@CallMeQuell - From a country far far away – Turkey.
@ayca - Thank you! How very interesting. How did you come about these parts (by which I mean xanga, because I don’ t know if you’re still in Turkey, or not.)
oh no problem! Enjoy the weekend, Also Dont Forget Iron Man Friday!
Great pic of you and your Dad
